bogus venice

let’s play a game. i hope it doesn’t sound pretentious (believe me, i’ll tell you and you’ll know when i feel pompous) 😛 after you’ve read the rest of this post, you’ll realize it’s far from the usual “i’ve-been-there-and-why-haven’t-you- so-you’re-beneath-me” stance of the detested pinoy social climber. i just need to do my contribution to this blog today and i’m kinda lazy. ha.ha. so allow me to use materials from my baul (i realized there’s quite a few nice items i can use from there) 😛

so i’ve seen at least two places that try to recreate venice: the venetian in las vegas and the one in macau. ironically, i haven’t been to the one in the philippines (the venetian mall and residences at mckinley hills in taguig city). truth to tell, i’ve spent a grand total of one and a half days in the real venice (on a backpack, where i had to sleep in the train station (not the first time, believe me) and had to hear easter sunday mass in a small ancient chapel just so i can escape from the cold outside (ha.ha. in a way that provided two levels of warmth — that for my body away from the freezing cold, and then that for my burning soul, with hell freezing over). 😛 ha.ha. but i digress.

so, just for useless fun, which of the pictures below are that of venice or the venetian (either las vegas or macau, which are twins anyway)? to make it easier, you just need to identify the letter of the “real deal” in every pair of pictures. don’t be fooled. some are quite tricky. if you get all in one try, i’ll send you a genuine murano glass (kidding, just a “mura-mo” puwet-ng-baso ring) 😛

a or b: basilica campanile in piazza san marco

c or d: typical canal

e or f: shophouses

g or h: doge’s palace in piazza san marco

i or j: gondolier

btw, the gellato shown above is authentic. 😛

i will post the answers in the comments section later 🙂

i would be very embarrassed if my answers turned out incorrect. i haven't been to venice or the venetian, though, so i have an excuse 😛 but i think i have a way to tell. i went for the dirtier-looking scenes for the “real deal,” LOL!

LOL! murano glass isn't that expensive so i can wait for that 😛 venice and florence are two of my dream destinations. i'd love to walk the halls of the uffizi gallery and see the paintings of botticelli up close 😀

Okay – spent nearly a week in Venice in 2008…. let me try:

The best part of Venice was not the murano glass, it was the spaghetti in squid ink sauce, and of course having a bellini at Harry's bar – just to complete the picture. The canals were lovely only at high tide – at low tide you see the debris on the sides of the buildings. But the Bridge of Sighs is very romantic. Venice is decaying but romantic. But I would choose Rome and Florence for the art.

aching claire, you got them right 😀 agree about rome and florence for the art. for the life of me, i can't remember what i ate in venice! it was the first leg of our trip, so maybe i got gellatoed-out right there and then 😀 (i wouldn't be surprised) 🙂
