waldorf salad a la betis

what do you do when life gives you apples and walnuts? make waldorf salad of course πŸ™‚ you remember the caramelized walnuts i posted recently? we were in the grocery today and i saw some romaine lettuce so i thought of making some salad for dinner. do you know that sm supermarket now sells salad ingredients “tingi-tingi” style? the vegetables are pre-cut and you simply choose which ones you like from the trays, then they are weighed per kilo. it’s like wendy’s salad bar gone homestyle πŸ™‚ this applies for fruit salad, too.

anyway, to go with this salad were croutons and chunks of chicken breast. since this was a bastardized waldorf, i though of making some honey-mustard dressing from yellow mustard, apple cider vinegar, canola oil and honey made by filipino bees πŸ™‚ first time to make the dressing from scratch and it turned out pretty good. we had it with pork steaks. this salad shall make a return πŸ™‚

would you believe i've never ordered the waldorf salad? πŸ˜› i should try it out one of these days (maybe at the waldorf, he he he). so, what are pork steaks? are they similar to pork chops? and your dressing seems to be more complicated than the usual waldorf salad. isn't that supposed to be just mayo?

hmmm, wendy's salad bar. good memories πŸ˜‰

yup. i ditched the mayo in favor of a “healthier” dressing (though i highly doubt it's healthier. he.he.)

porks steaks are pork chops without the bone. at least that's how they look like. they come pre-marinated and my mom just fried and then broiled them. it's a tender cut but i'm sure it's not liempo.

i think it's high time you tried the waldorf at the waldorf πŸ™‚
