any meat roasting on a spit is like a personal beacon for me. he.he. i think i survived a year mostly on doner kebabs (they’re so big the pita bread is as large as a plate) not only because they were the cheapest food around, but because they were really delicious. actually a shawarma meal is a complete guide to a dietitian’s menu: fiber from the veggies (cabbage, tomatoes, onions, olives, cucumber); carbo from the pita bread; fat and protein from the meat (lamb, beef, chicken… i don’t think pork works for this); and then of course, dairy from the yoghurt sauce (some put in cheese chunks, too). the problem is eating too much of it. 🙂

and the shawarma stands are everywhere! (the one in the photo was taken in zhuhai, china.) i’m dying to try though the one i saw on tv: taco al pastor stands in mexico, which use soft tacos instead of pita and and a garlicky salsa sauce. i can almost taste it in my head. in fact, i’m attaching of clip of that episode here. why do i like to torture myself like this? 😛

HA HA HA, not a big fan of shawarmas. i think just seeing that much meat gives me indigestion (i don't know why since i don't have the same problem looking at a lechon or goat).

i watched that video again and the little guy sure could pack in those tacos. i'd love to try the tripe taco … and yes, i think i won't mind trying out the taco al pastor stands. maybe when bullets aren't zipping around mexico city as much 😛

Just for the record, Anthony Bourdain is coming to UPAC in Kingston on Sunday, November 21st. I know this is a bit of a hike for those of you who do not live in the New York area, but I know someone who could make the drive up if she feels like it 🙂

You asked me to post, so I did. All these photos of food are absolutely killing me. I might have to go to Mole Mole for some Tacos al Pastor. I prefer a crunchy shell, though.

hey E, welcome to the blog! i'd love to drive up and see this show with you (i remember you told me about this about a month back, plus i keep seeing the ads in the paper), but dad is having minor knee surgery that weekend. maybe mr. bourdain will come to westchester soon? 😉

and like you, i prefer my tacos with crunchy shells!
