citrus lessons

fruit baskets are popular gifts during the holidays around here and my parents have been enjoying the treats for the last couple of weeks. i’ve been getting my daily dose of vitamin c from fresh grapefruits — the ones i took from the fruit baskets and a couple i got from a co-worker whose dad grows them. silly me, i don’t think i’ve ever had the grapefruits with the “white” meat (?). i’ve only seen/had the ruby red ones. i actually like the white ones; they’re sweeter and less bitter.

so how does grapefruit taste? similar to orange or closer to pomelo? and why is it called grapefruit when it looks like an orange and not a grape 😛

i think pomelos and grapefruits are pretty much the same. siblings, maybe? cousins at the very least 😛 they are called grapefruits because of the way they grow on trees, in a cluster, like grapes 🙂
