chicken rice

i met a good friend yesterday to exchange christmas gifts (christmas presents in march are always welcome. he.he.) and we decided to eat at banana leaf because i’ve been hankering for hainanese chicken rice for months now. she was supposed to give me some pointers on photography (she said our blog deserves better pictures, she’s a lawyer so i guess that’s a nice way of saying my photos are horrendous, ha.ha.) and i was supposed to bring my camera. guess what, i forgot to bring it. ha.ha. we used her point-and-shoot cam (aka phone) instead.

the chicken was tender, but there was something wrong with the rice. it wasn’t as malinamnam (savory) as i expected it to be, lacking the distinct flavors of coconut milk and pandan. the sambal (chili paste) was good though, and sort of saved the dish for me.

we had some of your favorites, kropek and spring rolls πŸ˜€ the codfish in spicy garlic was good, too.

dessert was at gelatissimo cafe, which as the name implies serves gelato and coffee. we talked about natural foods and my road to health while i was wolfing down two scoops of ice cream πŸ˜€ (she’s on a lenten penance so she didn’t have any, i guess i had to eat her share, so as not to disappoint the cows who labored hard to provide the cream.) πŸ˜›
