royal nuptials hoopla

you can’t turn on the TV these days without hearing something about the wedding of william and kate … oh, excuse me, “catherine.” seriously, CNN split its coverage between two topics yesterday — the royal wedding and the president’s birth certificate. *sigh

do you remember the wedding of prince charles and princess diana? that was 1981 and we would have been in first grade then. i have this memory of watching it on our old black and white TV surrounded by a few of our neighbors, but nothing more than that. i remember it being sort of a big deal — a prince and princess getting married! and though her prince seemed more like a toad even from the start, she definitely looked the part of a fairy-tale princess. shortly after, one of my aunts was gifted a coffee table book on the royal engagement/wedding and i devoured that from cover to cover. there was this whole mystique about the royalty. that’s not quite the case anymore, in this age of twitter and facebook. i mean, the royal family actually has a flickr account, for goodness’ sake (that’s where i got the photo on the right).

anyway, the ceremony is supposed to start at 6 a.m. tomorrow. i don’t think i’ll be watching, but i’ll DVR it. i do wish william and kate the best, though 🙂

can you believe all the major networks here are flying their top guns there for the coverage? so, i guess it's a question of will i watch it or should i turn the tv off? (arrgh, and we still don't have internet because thieves stole the pldt cables in guagua). these are interesting times… funny i met a belgian woman yesterday who was brought to betis by our friend c (the surgeon) to see the church. she dissed their royal family like no other. ha.ha.

i also heard a radio program where the hosts were taking bets how long before these two have a divorce 😀 mean, but realistic.

belgium still has a royal family?!?! for some reason, i thought that line had died out. had to google it and apparently they attended a pre-wedding dinner with other royals. why didn't c's friend like her royals?

btw, this didn't occur to me until this morning. was kris aquino one of the “top guns” that flew to london to cover the wedding? because i'd be interested in her commentary 😉

the belgian said their royals are stupid. ha.ha. (they normally marry within the family so that may be quite factual.)

no, thankfully kris aquino wasn't sent there. i think chanel 7 sent jessica soho, and channel 2 korina sanchez (though i think she instead went to rome for the pope's beatification). i watched parts of it on bbc. are those real trees inside the abbey, i guess brought there just for the wedding, right?

yep, real trees. they had brought them in the day before. i read somewhere that kate middleton wanted sort of an outdoors/spring-type feel. i think she succeeded 🙂

i did end up watching it — a few hours after (my sleep comes first). and i loved the little moments, like when william told kate she looked beautiful at the altar, then joked to his father-in-law that they were just supposed to have a small family affair. cheeky! i like that 😀

laughed at the “second kiss” on the balcony. apparently, it was “unprecedented” and “historic.” bless these journalists who have to say things like these with a straight face 🙂
