was in a family dinner recently in an aunt’s house in sta. rita and they had duman!of course, sta. rita is famous for this fragrant rice variety, and the town even holds a duman festival annually (around first week of december, i think).
if aztec corn were the golden grain, then this is the emerald rice. it is precious because it is harvested only once a year and comes from a special rice variety. there was some tskolate batirul (as an alternative to after-dinner coffee), and a few spoonfuls of duman dumped into the cup of hot chocolate seals the deal for me 🙂

love this with hot carabao's milk! haven't had it in a good long while, though. i have to go home in december … only way i'll get to enjoy it AND the duman festival. actually, my cousin who just came back from the philippines was able to go to the festival with my other cousins and they posted tons of food photos. i was salivating!
