indian buffet

so i told you that aside from the ras malai i haven’t had indian food in a long while, right? i asked a colleague who lives in the area and who is indian to recommend a restaurant. she said there were a couple near us but the one her family goes to is kiran palace, which claims to be the “best indian restaurant” on long island. there was a lunch buffet on the day another colleague and i went and this is what i got (clockwise from the top) basmati rice, chicken korma (another type of curry), chicken tikka masala, palak paneer (cheese-spinach curry) and a couple of pakoras (vegetable fritters). i thought the palak paneer and the chicken tikka masala were very good. the korma was a little bland and the fritters a little too oily, like they weren’t properly drained.

i know, i know … you’re going to say that’s not enough rice. we did get naan with butter. and instead of my usual mango lassi (yogurt-based drink), i ordered a rose lassi. i really liked the delicate flavor. after a couple of minutes, our server came back and profusely apologized for forgetting to add sugar to the drink. honestly, it almost didn’t need it. i said it was a buffet, right? an affordable one at that. not adding the drinks, the buffet, plus dessert, went for less than $10. that’s what i call a good deal 🙂

the chicken masala and the naan look really good, and the rose yogurt drink sounds quite interesting. i don't like fruit and flower-flavored teas. i don't know if i'll like that yoghurt, but i'll try it 🙂
