i’m sure you remember coco jam, best paired with pandelemon or pandesal. but do you remember bucayo as well? somebody brought some from the islands and in one crunchy bite, i was transported back to when i was five. this bucayo was fresh-tasting (versus one that tastes of coconut oil), and was both chewy and firm. one was more than enough, otherwise, the sugar overload will keep you up giddy till the next day 🙂

oh yes, i love bucayo but unfortunately the ones sold here do taste of old coconut oil (lalasang laru). they were probably imported in bulk and then took forever to sell 😦 i could never finish a whole one, though. had to split it with apu when i was younger.

the freshest bucayo is the best, when it almost tastes like freshly-basked macaroons
