mais con yelo: for days when heat index goes past 100

every day last week, whenever i opened the door of my apartment, i got slapped by this almost solid wall of heat. there were days when the heat index went past 100 degrees. so i tried to stay as cool as possible by staying indoors. having the fans (yes, plural) going nonstop throughout the day. occasionally turning on the AC (i’m lucky in that my apartment doesn’t have direct sun exposure so i didn’t need the AC often). eating ice candy or enjoying cool treats, such as mais con yelo. i didn’t have halo-halo ingredients, otherwise i would have made that. but the mais con yelo ingredients are far easier to find.

1 can of cream-style corn (size depends on how much you’re making, really)
1 can evaporated milk (don’t use fresh milk; it doesn’t taste the same)
sugar (to taste)
shaved ice

fill a tall glass 3/4 of the way with the shaved ice. add a couple of tablespoons (or more, it really depends on you) of corn and a teaspoon (or two or three) of sugar. pour the milk (start with 1/4 cup but more if you want it creamier). serve immediately.

sorry, this took a while. i'm not exactly a fan of mais con yelo, but what's weird is i like it very much in ice cream form (yeah, i'm really weird). i loved the corn-flavored ice cream bar of magnolia the most.
and i hate corn on halo-halo. its flavor drowns everything else.

i love avocado con jielo con leche though!
