buko halo


what do you get when you combine fresh buko juice on the shell and halo-halo? of course, buko halo! it’s delicious! the colors remind me of christmas! the only problem is this is meant for sharing and i couldn’t finish it in one sitting. no problem! buko-to-go! talk about an environmentally sustainable take-away container (except the plastic)! 😛


we had this at tanok’z, one of the more popular chicken places here in southern mindanao. it’s apparently owned by a capampangan (descendant) and it was good to have a conversation in the native language 🙂 i have yet to try their kitchen though (it was merienda time when we went there). maybe next time!

    OK, I don't think I've quite wrapped my head around this concept. But isn't this just a more “watery” halo-halo? Did they use buko juice instead of milk? Looks like it's just halo-halo in a buko shell.

    yup, it was more watery than usual but not any less flavorful. it actually balances out the sweetness from the ice cream and the creaminess of the milk.

    did you see my freudian slip above, “trying the kitchen” instead of “trying their chicken”? 🙂
