Hello, snow, goodbye, snow

So blizzard Jonas came and went, leaving behind up to 2 feet of snow in the area. Everything around me is blinding white. Given how messy it was yesterday with the nonstop snowfall, swirling winds, zero visibility, icy roads, it’s so weird to look around today and see nothing but clear skies and sun. Well, that and more than 20 inches of snow.

Getting home last night was a bit of an adventure. I got stuck near an intersection at work, and had to go back and forth a few times to be able to get the momentum to get past humps of snow left by the plows. The roads were so slippery my tires left zig-zagging tracks (fortunately, because of a ban, no one else was traveling). And when I got home, there was absolutely no room on the street to park. Thank God, my super was out and about plowing at midnight. He scooped out a hole in the snow for me so Henrik could rest comfortably. I owe my super a gift card.

Travel bans like this one generally exclude public-safety and public-works personnel, journalists, medical professionals and utility workers. I heard a couple of folks from the Web department got stopped on their way home from work but were not ticketed after they ID’d themselves.
