I bought a box of “chicken rice” ingredients — the flavor base for the chicken and the rice (with pandan, galanggal, etc.), a sesame soil base for the chicken, and the sawsawan packet of soy sauce, ginger, and chili.
It was pretty easy. boil the chicken in the base, use the broth to cook the rice, and then warm the sesame oil and pour over the cooked chicken. Then dip in the trifecta of sauces.
I used chicken thighs for more flavorful meat. I added fresh pandan leaves to the rice as well. Of course, I had the usual cucumber slices and cilantro leaves for garnishing.
For a flavor-base mix from a box, this turned out fantastic!
